Move over, Vegas! A West Cork couple has officially conquered Hollywood after making television history as the first-ever pair to wed on The Jennifer Hudson Show. Bantry natives Amanda Murnane and Brendan Hayes, who have been together for 27 years, swapped the Wild Atlantic Way for the bright lights of Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California, for a ceremony that was anything but ordinary.

According to the Irish Examiner, the wedding was a total ambush for bride Amanda, who thought she was simply attending a recording as a VIP guest with a cheeky professional photoshoot thrown in. Her partner Brendan had been working undercover with producers since August, originally just asking if the show could help with hair and makeup for their planned civil service. Instead, the team went full ‘fairy godmother,’ organizing a televised spectacle with EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson acting as the official celebrant.

The couple, who share three children and a grandson, had seen their marriage plans take a backseat for years due to life’s ups and downs, including their daughter’s health battle with leukemia in 2011. Brendan told Evoke that keeping the secret for months nearly drove him "nuts," but the payoff was worth it. As they stood before a live audience, Hudson declared: "For the very first time in JHud history, I now pronounce you man and wife!"

Speaking to the Irish Star after the emotional ceremony, Amanda admitted she thought her new husband had run out of ways to surprise her after nearly three decades. "I went to Hollywood expecting memories, but I came home with a husband and a moment I’ll carry in my heart forever," she said. Talk about a grand day out!
