The ballroom has claimed its fourth victim as former England footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips and partner Alexis Warr were sent packing. The pair lost a tense dance-off against actress Jaime Winstone and Carlos Gu after Anton Du Beke was forced to use his casting vote to break a deadlock among the judges.

While Wright-Phillips' jive to Stevie Wonder’s 'Faith' wasn't enough to save him, he did have a friend in Head Judge Shirley Ballas, who voted to keep him in the competition. According to The Independent, the night's harshest critique actually went to Emmerdale’s Lawrence Robb, who Craig Revel Horwood branded 'flat-footed and out of time' during the Saturday live show.

But the real terror starts now. Strictly bosses have confirmed a 'fiendish' format change for tonight's Halloween special: the show’s first-ever triple dance-off. In a departure from the usual two-couple scrap, the three pairs with the lowest combined scores and public votes will all have to dance for their lives.

In an extra spooky twist for the Halloween episode, the judges will be asked to vote for the pair they want to eliminate rather than save. The show is expected to return to its standard format the following week, but for three unlucky couples, the ballroom is about to get a lot more crowded.
