Marty Whelan rules out 'regrets' over turning down the BBC for RTÉ
The legendary broadcaster has revealed he once flirted with the idea of a London career move but ultimately decided to keep his iconic moustache on home soil.

He is the undisputed king of the Eurovision mic and the man who makes our mornings on Lyric FM, but Marty Whelan has admitted things could have looked very different if he'd followed the bright lights of London.
According to RSVP Live, the broadcasting legend opened up about previously considering a career move to the BBC. Despite the lure of the UK's national broadcaster, Marty confirmed he has 'no regrets' about staying put with RTÉ, where he has become one of the country's most beloved fixtures.
The revelation comes as Marty enters a golden era of his career, having been officially inducted into the IMRO Radio Awards Hall of Fame last month. At 70 years young, the presenter shows no signs of slowing down, previously telling the Irish Times that he intends to keep going as long as the audience wants him.
While he’s weathered many a storm at Montrose—from contract insecurities to the loss of Winning Streak—Marty remains the ultimate pro. It seems the BBC's loss was very much Ireland's gain, as we couldn't imagine May without his witty Eurovision commentary.
