Sir Patrick Stewart, the acclaimed British actor who became a global icon as Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Professor X, has passed away at the age of 86. His family confirmed he died peacefully on Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles, surrounded by loved ones and music.

The acting legend’s death followed what his representatives described as a 'brief and poignant journey' with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia. A son of Mirfield, Yorkshire, Stewart was celebrated for a career spanning seven decades, moving seamlessly from the Royal Shakespeare Company to Hollywood superstardom.
