The doctor is in! ER legend Noah Wyle crowned People’s Sexiest Man Alive 2026

It’s official: the stethoscope is back in style. Noah Wyle, the man who spent fifteen seasons making us feel better as Dr. John Carter on ER, has been named People’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2026. The 55-year-old actor, who is currently undergoing a massive career resurgence in the hit medical drama The Pitt, was unveiled as the new titleholder on Tuesday, October 27.

Despite his obvious leading-man credentials, Wyle admitted he was the last person to believe the news. Speaking to People, the actor confessed he initially thought the phone call was a "classic set-up for a prank," adding that "not in a million years" did he think he’d be following in the footsteps of the likes of David Beckham and Idris Elba.

The actor credits his wife, Sara Wells, for talking him into accepting the gong. According to the CBC, Wyle joked that she was "very pleased" with the news as it reflects well on her own taste, while noting that she views him as a "good guy" and a father worth celebrating. He also expects to take plenty of "ribbing" from his family and friends over the next few months.

Of course, the news has sparked a massive reaction online, with many fans immediately thinking of his former ER co-star and two-time winner George Clooney. Wyle told People he expects Clooney will be "amused" and act like a "proud papa" now that his protégé has reached "gray-haired age." Wyle succeeds 2025 winner Jonathan Bailey, who held the crown for the past twelve months.
