Andrew Scott and Enda Walsh lead Irish charge as 2026 BIFA nominations are revealed
It’s a massive day for the Irish in film as the 2026 British Independent Film Award nominations see our own Andrew Scott and Enda Walsh leading the pack for the top gongs.

The 'Scott-aissance' is officially in full swing. Andrew Scott has bagged a Best Lead Performance nomination at the 2026 British Independent Film Awards for his turn in 'Elsinore.' The film, a heartbreaking biopic about Scottish actor Ian Charleson’s final stint as Hamlet, is the one to beat this year with a whopping 12 nominations in total, according to The Guardian.
Not to be outdone, Dublin playwright and screenwriter Enda Walsh has picked up a Best Screenplay nod for 'I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning.' The Birmingham-set drama, directed by Clio Barnard, follows five friends facing the harsh reality of their 30s and has already been cleaning up on the festival circuit, winning the Audience Award at Cannes earlier this year, as reported by The Irish Post.
The Irish talent doesn't stop there. 'I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning' also earned a Best Ensemble Performance nomination for its cast, which includes rising Irish stars Anthony Boyle, Daryl McCormack, and Lola Petticrew. Meanwhile, Clare Dunne has been recognised in the Best Joint Lead Performance category for 'The Education of Jane Cumming.'
It's set to be a proper night out for the Irish contingent when the winners are announced at London's Roundhouse on December 6. With Scott already being tipped by critics as a frontrunner for the Oscars, a BIFA win would be the perfect start to what looks like a very busy awards season for the Dublin man.
