Andrew Scott and Enda Walsh Lead Irish Charge at 2026 BIFA Nominations

It is a massive day for Irish talent as the 2026 British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) shortlist has been revealed, and our very own Andrew Scott is leading the pack. The Dublin native has secured a nod for Best Lead Performance for his role in the biopic 'Elsinore', which follows the final months of Scottish actor Ian Charleson’s life.

Scott isn't the only one celebrating, as 'Elsinore' has completely dominated the field with a whopping 12 nominations in total. According to The Guardian, Scott is already being tipped as a potential Oscar favourite for his 'astonishing' portrayal of Charleson during his battle with AIDS while performing Hamlet at the National Theatre.

Dubliner Enda Walsh is also in the mix for the big prizes, picking up a nomination for Best Screenplay for 'I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning'. The film, which follows five friends navigating life in Birmingham, also features a stellar Irish ensemble including Daryl McCormack, Lola Petticrew, and Anthony Boyle, all of whom shared in a nomination for Best Ensemble Performance, according to The Irish Post.

Other Irish stars making waves include Clare Dunne, who earned a Best Joint Lead Performance nomination for 'The Education of Jane Cumming', and cinematographer Piers McGrail, recognized for his work on 'Everybody Digs Bill Evans'. The winners will be crowned at a glitzy ceremony at London’s Roundhouse on December 6, and you can bet we’ll be raising a glass to our local heroes.
