Adele has opened up to fans about a 'grim' health ordeal that has left her partially deaf in her left ear. During her Weekends with Adele residency in Las Vegas, the 36-year-old superstar revealed she contracted a rare water-borne bacteria while performing in Munich earlier this year, according to The Mirror.

The singer didn't hold back on the details, describing the infection as 'the most painful thing' that has ever happened to her. In a comparison that will make mums everywhere wince, she told the audience at Caesars Palace that the agony was actually 'worse than childbirth,' as reported by Newsweek.

The recovery hasn't been a walk in the park either. Adele admitted she was initially put on the wrong antibiotics, leading to days of 'horrendous' pain before doctors found a treatment that worked. According to NME, she joked with the crowd that she wanted to 'chop her ear off' several times during the peak of the infection.

While the North London icon is thankfully no longer in pain, she confirmed the lingering side effect is a loss of hearing in one ear. Despite the setback, she’s powering through her final Vegas dates before she kicks off a well-earned indefinite hiatus from the spotlight.
